Born as a local Taiwanese, it is easy for us to have porridge everywhere, anytime, if we want. So before I tasted this Korean style porridge, I have always thought that "Awww, maybe the porridge was originated from the early times of Taiwan." Until I dig in more about Porridge history, I realized that this simple food is not as simple as it seems.

How I Met My First Korean Porridge

Food is for eating, and good food is to be enjoyed ... I think food is, actually, very beautiful in itself. - Delia Smith

A week after I started my Korean class in Ewha Womans University, I decided to invite my Japanese classmate 카호 to have lovely meal and visit beautiful Cafe together. Since I am a vegetarian but 카호 is not, I spent nearly an hour looking up the ideal restaurants for both of us on the internet. Then I found this restaurant named #Migabon #미가본 which is ranked #25 on trip advisor in Seoul Korea. As soon as I noticed they serve vegetable porridge 야채죽 #Korea #Vegetarian #Restaurant, I made up my mind to give it a try!

How Migabon Surprised Me

As soon as we stepped in the restaurant, we were given warm welcomed from the host. He kindly asked us where we are from and presented Japanese menu for 카호, Chinese menu for me right away. In addition to vegetable porridge, there are many other porridge options such as ginseng and chicken porridge, pine mushroom and abalone porridge are recommended by the restaurant itself. Both 카호 and I ordered vegetable porridge. We could only say " WOW" when the staff presented us the food. Even until now, I still clearly remember the sesame oil smell of the porridge. The taste wasn't too salty at the same time it was soupy!! The most amazing part of this porridge was the "seaweed" which lighted up more stunning taste. In addition, please have the porridge together with the side dishes 반찬 they served, their existences perfect this tempting meal. (You may need to inform the staff beforehand that you are vegetarian since some of the side dishes contain meat or seafood.) While you are dining in, you may notice there are quite many Japanese Staff. Actually, there are quite numerous Japanese tourists choose Korean Porridge as their first breakfast option while they visit Korea as I heard from the host of the restaurant. Besides, the host is fluently not only in Korean, Japanese but also Chinese and English. Thus, if you have any porridge ingredient related questions, I believe he is able to solve your questions! Therefore, you could also take this into your consideration when you decide to have a trip in Korea!
